KARACHI: The inaugural edition of the National Women’s Volleyball Tournament will kick off on December 16, the Pakistan Volleyball Federation (PVF) confirmed on Thursday.
According to the details, the week-long tournament will feature over 60 teams and 600 participants from across Pakistan, marking a significant step forward for women’s sports in the country.
The tournament is aimed to highlight the strength, skill and potential of female athletes, and also to empower and help them reach global platforms like the Olympics.
The national tournament will be played at the National Coaching Center – Pakistan Sports Board (PSB), with finals scheduled on December 23.
A press conference regarding official announcement of the tournament and its significance was held on Thursday at Karachi Gymkhana, which was attended by provincial minister Sharjeel Inam Memon.
Memon, while addressing the media talk, lauded the PVF and organizers of the tournament, before assuring that the Sindh Government will provide full cooperation.
“I would like to congratulate the management for holding such event for female athletes for the first time,” said Memon.
“I assure full cooperation from Sindh Government. We will fulfill all of your needs,” he added.
Memon further shared his plans to strategize holding the National Women’s Volleyball Tournament each year and expressed his confidence that the forthcoming event will encourage parents in letting their children taking up sports.
“More parents will be encouraged after watching this tournament. We are committed to provide positive activities to the youth in a bid to improve their future.
“We will strive to devise such a formula that this tournament happens year.”
